How do I get a library card?

Each student is assigned a library card during orientation each school year. Students must use these cards to check out books, though cards are not needed to renew. To renew, simply bring the book to the Circulation Desk. There is a charge of $2 to replace a lost or damaged card.
What are my responsibilities when I check out library materials?
Students are responsible for the books they check out. No fines are charged for overdue books. However, if books are lost or damaged the student will be charged for the full price of the book. "Damaged" includes torn pages, marks, if it's wet or if it smells bad. Books may be checked out for two weeks.
When may I come to the media center?
Students may come to the media center in class groups or individually with teacher permission. Our media center operates on a flexible schedule to ensure that everyone has access to materials. A flexible schedule also allows time for the library media specialist and classroom teachers to collaborate on lessons.

How do I borrow library books?

Use a ruler to mark the place of a book as you browse our shelves. After selecting your book(s), take them to the Circulation Desk (located just beyond the main entrance of the media center). Students use the stationary scanner to scan the library card first. Then scan the HCMS barcode (located on the front of each book). The assistant or media specialist will oversee all transactions and help as needed.
Where do I return materials?
Return materials to the book return slot at the Circulation Desk.
Why should a source used in research be cited?

To avoid plagiarism -- which essentially means "stealing words written by someone else." When a researcher cites a source, this means credit has been given to the writer/owner of the document.
